Vintage55

Aroma Therapy from Vintage55: scented t-shirts packaged in glass jars with an aromatic sachet in them that enables the tees to refresh their scents after each washing. The textiles have also been specially dyed with a natural aromatic dye.

I like how this collection takes the experience of a t-shirt into a multisensory one involving sight, touch, and smell. I also love their mission statement:

"Vintage is neither a revival nor a commemoration. Neither nostalgia nor a return to the past. And Vintage55 is not even about melancholy for bygone eras, nor is it simply about imitation. Vintage55 is more a tribute to the experience of clothing that tends to get lost in the accumulation of events; in the passing of days, years and centuries that leave their threads behind...

Si Scott

Lately I'm noticing a trend in this type of swirling typographic treatments on ads and posters. UK graphic designer Si Scott is one of the masters who's been creating these beautiful type.

In this interview, he reveals, "
Most of my inspiration comes from music - I am constantly listening to music while I work and the lyrics especially. I’m really into words!"

Watch his process here.

Out with the Bush

Someone (apparently the people in these pictures, along with the police officer in the group), have changed all of the street signs on "Bush Street" to read "Obama Street" in San Francisco. Great idea!

Thanks Melanie for sharing!

Fartless Factory

The Fancy Food Show opened yesterday, in San Francisco. This is a huge tradeshow where thousands of exhibitors from the country and around the world present their best recipes and food products. For us packaging designers, this show is an overload of eye candy and of course, nothing beats the free samples!

I almost choked when I saw this booth. The Fartless Factory really took the cake with their name. We spoke briefly with the jovial owner (otherwise known as Old Fart) who told us the hilarious story of how the company was born.

My favourite is how the back of each product is signed with witty quotes like "If this doesn't help may all yours be quiet little ones."

Now that's what I call branding.

Latest Identity Work

Recently the popular wedding blog Style Me Pretty approached me to design an identity for their "Little Black Book" and accompanying header for "Little Black Book Blog".

Since both are sub-brands of SMP, I felt that the design had to be brand-centric: something elegant, sophisticated with a slight "edge". It was important that the Little Black Book could live as a stand-alone brand, but still maintain some connection to the main SMP brand.

I'm so excited they launched both, ta-da!

The Nutcracker

Over the holidays, pt surprised me with tickets to the Nutcracker. I was beyond thrilled! The sheer beauty and grace of the dancers, their costumes, the stage, the music... talk about an overload of inspiration!

I can't decide if the Trepak or the Arabian dancers are my favourite. The San Francisco ballet has a blog where you can follow some of the behind-the-scenes action.
